0.5.390: sign in, and Report a bug

DimSum signs in to your Planbase account, keeps working offline, and gets a red Report a bug button so telling us about a problem takes seconds.

The goal of this version

DimSum is getting ready for its first customers. This version connects DimSum to your Planbase account, so it knows who's using it, and it keeps working when you're offline. It also makes reporting a bug or an idea part of DimSum itself. The goal is a sign-in that's quick, stays out of the way of your work, and never locks you out.

What's new to try

  • Sign in with your browser. DimSum opens Planbase's sign-in page in your normal browser and never sees your password. New here? Create your account from the sign-in screen.
  • Online or Offline, every time it opens. A short message under the top bar says which, and a small indicator on the top bar always shows it.
  • Up to 30 days offline, counted from the last time DimSum was online. A problem on our side never locks you out.
  • System Settings → Account & License shows your plan, your Workspace, your seats and your computers, with Check now and Sign out.
  • Two computers per seat, such as an office PC and a laptop. On a third, DimSum lists your other computers so you can free one.
  • Your work is never held hostage. If a license ends, every job still opens, prints and exports. Nothing is deleted.
  • Report a bug and Feedback, on the top bar and in the Help menu, plus Report this next to an error message.
  • For testers: your account is complimentary, with nothing to pay and no trial mark, and your updates stay on the channel your invitation set.

What we're fine-tuning, and what to look for

  • Signing in the first time. From the update to being back at work: did any step confuse you? Did your browser hand you straight back to DimSum?
  • Working offline. Use DimSum with no connection, on a job site or a laptop. Does the Online and Offline message make sense, and does it stay out of your way?
  • Two computers. If you work on more than one computer, sign in on each. Is freeing up an old computer clear?
  • The wording on Account & License. Would everything on that page make sense to someone who isn't technical?
  • Report a bug. Use it for anything at all. Is it quick to fill in, and are you comfortable with what's sent?
  • The buttons on the top bar. Too loud, or easy to miss? You can turn them off in System Settings → General. If you do, tell us why.

Known issues

  • The License Agreement shown the first time DimSum opens is still a draft, and it says so. The final wording comes later.
  • The known issues listed for 0.5.380 are still open.

How to send feedback

Click the red Report a bug button or Feedback on the top bar, or use Help → Report a bug… (Ctrl+Shift+B). Your DimSum version goes with every report, so you don't have to look it up. See Beta program for all the ways to reach us.
