0.5.400: the Tools panel Coming
ComingThis version isn't out yet. This page says what it's planned to bring, and it may change before it reaches Beta.
A tab for each folder of tools, and the framing tools on the toolbar above the plan, each with its own key.
The goal of this version
As your own tools pile up next to the built-in ones, finding the right one means scrolling. This version gives each folder of tools its own tab, and puts the framing tools one click, or one key, away on the toolbar above the plan. The goal is less hunting, so the tool you want is always a second away.
What's new to try
- Tabs in the Tools panel: All, then DimSum Defaults, then one tab for each folder of your own. The tab you pick is remembered.
- Framing tools on the toolbar, after Linear, Area and Count: Joist, Rafter, Beam, Wall, Plate, Rim Board, Subfloor and Ceiling Drywall.
- Keys 4 to 9 place Joist, Rafter, Beam, Wall, Plate and Rim Board, the way 1 to 3 pick Linear, Area and Count.
- On a smaller screen, the framing buttons fold into a More ▾ menu instead of squeezing the toolbar.
- The "This job" list is gone from the Tools panel. To place more of a tool whose folder isn't on this computer, right-click one of its items and choose New item like this.
What we're fine-tuning, and what to look for
- The toolbar. Are these the right tools to have there, in the right order? Would you pick different keys?
- Lots of folders. If you keep many folders of tools, does the row of tabs still work for you?
- Laptops and small screens. Does the toolbar fold in a way that makes sense?
- Life without "This job". If you used that list, is New item like this a good enough way back to a tool? Tell us what you miss.
Known issues
- The known issues listed for 0.5.380 are still open.
How to send feedback
Click the red Report a bug button or Feedback on the top bar, or use Help → Report a bug… (Ctrl+Shift+B). Your DimSum version goes with every report, so you don't have to look it up. See Beta program for all the ways to reach us.
