DimSum 0.5.380

Released October 5, 2026.

One Wall Tool with a table of wall types, from 2x4 and 2x6 to metal stud, concrete and CMU. Draw a run and its plates, studs, anchors, insulation, sheathing and drywall follow every corner, its height and the floor or slab under it.

The same news is on the website's What's new page.

What's new

  • One Wall Tool, a table of wall types. Ready to place from the built-in tools, under Framing, with six types: Wood 2x4, Wood 2x6, Wood 2x8, Metal Stud, Concrete and CMU.
  • Your own wall types. In the Wall types table, duplicate a type, tick the layers it uses, give it its own thickness, height or stud size, and rename it. Walls of a renamed type follow it.
  • Mix types in one run. Set the type on the whole item, or on one wall from its right-click menu, so a 2x4 wall or a concrete wall can sit in the same run as your 2x6 walls.
  • Draw walls like any line. Click along the wall and press Enter. Each span is its own wall, numbered W1, W2 and so on, and labelled on the plan.
  • Clean corners. Corners and T's close cleanly at any angle. The wall drawn first owns a corner, so nothing is counted twice.
  • Inside and outside. Your line is the exterior face of the studs, with the exterior on the left as you draw: trace a room clockwise and the sheathing is outside. Hold Ctrl while drawing, or use Flip exterior, to put one wall's exterior on its other side.
  • Wall plane moves the wall onto your line by its centerline, its interior face or a layer's face instead.
  • Materials that follow the wall. Plates, studs, anchors, insulation, sheathing and drywall are worked out for each wall, and Estimating lists them by wall. Concrete walls give concrete and rebar; CMU walls give blocks, bond beam blocks, rebar and grout.
  • Walls sit on what's under them. Walls drawn over a Joist floor stand on top of it, at the top of the subfloor. Mark any area as a slab or foundation and walls drawn over it stand on that instead, with a treated bottom plate and anchors. On a framed floor they get a plain bottom plate.
  • A section through the wall in Tools → Assembly, with every layer dimensioned and the wall plane highlighted, and a test room that updates as you change the type.
  • A Plate Tool for drawing plates on their own.

More in Wall tools.
