Beta program
Beta gets each new version of DimSum first. These pages say what each Beta version is for, what to try, what we most want your opinion on, and how to tell us what you find.
What Beta is
DimSum has two update channels, Stable and Beta. Each new version goes to Beta first. Testers use it on their own work and tell us what they find, and Stable gets the version once testers have checked it.
A Beta version is finished work, but it's new. Expect a rough edge now and then, check every number before you rely on it, and keep backups of your jobs.
Getting on Beta, and off it
- If you're a tester, you start on Beta. Your tester invitation sets your channel for you, so in System Settings → About / Updates the Update channel box is greyed, with Your account is on Beta. underneath. Want Stable instead? Ask us, with Feedback or by email, and we'll move you.
- Everyone else can choose. In System Settings → About / Updates, set Update channel to Beta. Set it back to Stable whenever you like.
- Going back to Stable never takes you down a version. You keep the version you have, and updates start again once Stable catches up. See Updates for more.
What we ask of testers
- Use DimSum on real work, side by side with the way you work today, and compare the numbers.
- Try what's new in each version. Each version's page lists what to try, and the areas where your opinion matters most.
- Tell us everything, big or small: a wrong count, a slow screen, a confusing word, a default you'd always change, a step that takes too many clicks.
- Keep it private until we make it public: no screenshots or posts without asking us first.
How to report
- The red Report a bug button and the Feedback button on DimSum's top bar (from 0.5.390). Pick the kind, give it a title, say what happened, and click Send. A screenshot and diagnostics are optional, and you see what's in them before you send.
- The Help menu: Help → Report a bug… (Ctrl+Shift+B) and Help → Send feedback… (Ctrl+Shift+F).
- Report this, next to an error message, opens a bug report that already holds the error.
- No connection? The report is saved on your computer and sent when DimSum is back online.
- Before 0.5.390, or away from DimSum: write to support@planbaseestimating.com.
Every report is read by the people who build DimSum, and we write back. More in Send feedback and report bugs.
Release notes, newest first
Stable gets each version once testers have checked it. A version marked Coming isn't out yet: its page says what it's planned to bring, and it may change before it arrives.
