0.5.412: the form on every placement, and Esc that keeps your work
Placing a tool opens its form first, Esc finishes a run and keeps it, and a typed length lets you keep drawing.
The goal of this version
Two changes testers asked for. Until now a tool's form only showed in Properties and Tool Settings, so you placed a Joist Tool and then went looking for its spacing. Now the form opens every time you place a tool, filled in, so you set it up before you draw. And Esc now does what you'd expect while drawing: it finishes the run and keeps it, instead of putting the tool away.
What's new to try
- The tool's form when you place it. Change what you need and click Place. Cancel or Esc places nothing.
- Rows you leave alone keep following the tool. Only what you change is yours on that item, so later updates to the tool still reach the rest.
- New item like this, Continue this item and Draw more points never ask again.
- Esc keeps what you drew. While drawing, Esc finishes the run and keeps it, just like Enter, and the tool stays ready for the next run. Press Esc again to put the tool away.
- One stray click is dropped. A run of a single click (or an area of two) isn't a shape, so it's thrown away, and DimSum says so.
- Keep drawing after a typed length. Click anywhere, or press another arrow for the next length.
What we're fine-tuning, and what to look for
- The forms. Is each tool's form asking the right things when you place it? Is there anything you'd rather not be asked every time?
- Esc and Enter. Does Esc, then Esc again, feel right after a few hours of takeoff? Do you ever lose a run you meant to keep?
- Typed lengths. After → 10' Enter, can you mix free clicks and typed lengths the way you draw from printed dimensions?
Known issues
- Wall Type in the Wall Tool's form is a typed box. A name that isn't one of the tool's wall types leaves the wall's Height blank: pick from the names the tool lists.
- The known issues listed for 0.5.411 are still open.
