0.5.413: a new section from every two clicks, or one continuous run
Linear tools can draw one continuous run or a new section from every start and end click, set in System Settings, on the tool, or with P while you draw.
The goal of this version
One change testers asked for. Until now a Linear tool always drew click, click, click as one joined run, and you pressed N between pieces that shouldn't join. Headers, blocking and short separate pieces meant a lot of N. Now every Linear tool has a Placement: Continuous, as before, or New section each placement, where every start and end click is its own section of the item. You pick the default for every tool in System Settings, set it on a tool, or switch it on the spot while you draw.
What's new to try
- Placement on every Linear tool. In Properties, right under Draw Side: Use system default (every tool to start), Continuous or New section each placement.
- A default for every tool. System Settings → Tools → Linear placement default: Continuous (out of the box) or New section each placement. Tools left on Use system default follow it.
- New section each placement. Click the start, click the end: that's one section, and your next click starts a fresh one, not joined. An arrow, a length and Enter finishes a section too. Ctrl+Z takes back one whole section.
- Switch it while you draw. The Placement switch in Properties, beside Draw Side, or the key P, flips between Continuous and New section on the item you're drawing. Ctrl+Z puts it back.
- Esc after a lone start click drops it and says so; Esc again puts the tool away.
- The Wall Tool draws one wall per two clicks in New section mode. The Beam Tool is unchanged: two clicks a beam, as always.
What we're fine-tuning, and what to look for
- The default. Which one would you leave on for a normal day of takeoff?
- The switch. Is it where you look for it while drawing? Does P feel right?
- Separate pieces. Do headers, blocking or short pieces go faster in New section mode? Does anything join that shouldn't, or come apart that should stay joined?
Known issues
- Section Count counts chains of two or more spans, so one-span sections on their own count 0, and two sections whose ends meet count as one.
- The known issues listed for 0.5.412 are still open.
