The Tester portal
Your home base as a tester, at app.planbaseestimating.com/testing: download DimSum, work through short test tasks, report a bug in a few taps, and see what happened to everything you sent us.
Getting in
- After you accept your invitation, you land there straight away, with "You're set up" at the top. The invitation email links to it too.
- It's only for invited testers. Anyone else sees a short note saying so. Not a tester yet? See Beta program.
- It works on your phone, so you can keep a task list open beside DimSum while you work.
A short survey first
The first time you visit, we ask 9 quick questions, mostly taps: your role, what you'd use DimSum for, your typical projects, your testing style, your experience with takeoff software, your screen setup and size, how much time you can give each week, and anything else you'd like us to know. Only your role, what you'd use DimSum for and your testing style are required.
Your testing style helps us point you to the right tasks:
- Break it: find bugs, push the limits, try weird things.
- Use it: real work on real plans.
- Both: a bit of each.
Changed your mind? Edit your survey on the portal any time.
What's on the portal
- Download DimSum for Windows. As a tester you get Beta versions. After that DimSum updates itself: it downloads each new version in the background and shows Restart to update when it's ready.
- What DimSum does: a short overview, with links to these help pages and to the current Beta version's notes.
- Your test tasks: short task lists for the current Beta version.
- Report a bug / Send feedback: a short form right on the page. Pick the type, give it a title, say what happened, and add a screenshot if you like.
- Your reports: everything you've sent us, with where it stands and our replies.
- The Beta and Tester Agreement, a link to read it again any time.
The order follows your testing style: Break it testers see the Break it list first, Use it testers see A real job first. Everyone can open every list.
Test tasks
Each Beta version comes with a few short task lists, such as Getting started, A real job and Break it. Work through the steps in DimSum and mark each one:
- Done: it worked.
- Problem: something went wrong. Say what happened and add a screenshot if you like. This sends us a bug report for you, tied to that step, so you don't have to write it twice.
- Skip: not for you, or not today.
Your progress is saved as you go, so stop whenever you like and pick up where you left off. When you've worked through a list, click Finish, and add a last word if you have one.
Your reports
Everything you send shows under Your reports: reports from the portal's form, a Problem on a test task, and DimSum's red Report a bug button. Each one shows where it stands and any reply from us.
For all the other ways to reach us, see How to report.
