Run a report
Reports turn your takeoff into material lists and count sheets, and the print dialog turns your pages into marked-up plans. Both always show the job as it is right now.
Steps
- Open the Reports tab. Click Reports on the top bar. Your reports are listed on the left, and the one you pick is previewed on the right, built from the open job's live data.
- Start with a built-in report. DimSum Defaults holds three: the Test Report (every part, grouped by Division), the Material List (parts combined by Item #, grouped by Division) and the Takeoff Summary (items, grouped by sheet).
- Print or export. Use Print, Export PDF or Export CSV above the preview. Exports start in the job's Exports folder.
- Make your own. Click New, give it a name, and choose what to Start from: Blank, or one of the three built-in reports. It appears under Custom.
- Design it. Pick it and click Design (or double-click it). Drag fields from the left onto the bands, drag in a Report Header, an Image for your logo, Text such as
PICK LIST — {Job > Name}, and Page X of Y in the footer. The live preview sits beside the page. It saves as you go, andCtrl+Zundoes. - Choose the data. On the designer's Data tab, set what the report lists, Only rows where… to filter it, Group by, Sort by, and Combine to add up matching rows.
- Style it. Pick a font for the whole report or per element, and Solid, Dashed or Dotted lines. Lines appear only where you put them.
- Print a marked-up plan. Open a page and press
Ctrl+P. Choose This page, Chosen or All pages, the paper, the orientation, and Scale to fit or True scale. - Pick what prints. Under Include, tick the Auto legend, Grayscale plan, Labels, Takeoff lengths and each kind of markup. Click Preview to see the sheet, then Print or Export PDF….
TIP
Duplicate a built-in report rather than starting from scratch. You get its layout and data settings, and can change anything.
Good to know
- A report is its own
.rsumfile. Share one by sending the file; Open folder shows where it is. - A value with an ERROR still prints, in red, and the totals leave it out and say how many.
- On the Reports tab,
Ctrl+Pstill prints the plan page. Use the tab's Print button for the report. - Exports during a trial will carry a small watermark once trials arrive Coming.
- Still to come: marked-up plan layouts of your own with info boxes and custom legends, report parameters, and running a set of reports at once are Coming.
