0.5.414: the Place form filled in, and open until the answer is right
The Beam Tool's form opens with Plies 2 and Beam filled in, a wrong answer keeps the form open and says what to fix, and Wall Type is a list of the tool's own wall types.
The goal of this version
A small update that fixes the form that opens when you place a tool, a bug from 0.5.412. Pressing 6 opened Place Beam Tool with Plies and Beam or Header blank, although the tool says 2 and Beam. Clicking Place without typing showed a message, then closed the form and got the plain Linear ready instead of the Beam Tool, so you drew the wrong thing. Now every question starts with the tool's own value, and a wrong answer keeps the form open until it's fixed.
What's new to try
- Every question on a Place form starts with the tool's own value when it has one: the Beam Tool reads Plies 2 and Beam or Header: Beam. Click Place and the Beam Tool is ready; two clicks draw a beam.
- A wrong answer keeps the form open. Leave Plies empty, or type
two, and click Place: the form stays open, the message shows right under Plies, the box is outlined and the cursor goes back to it. Typing clears the message. Nothing is drawn, and the tool you had ready before stays ready. - Cancel, ✕ and Esc still place nothing.
- Wall Type is a list. On the Wall Tool's form, Wall Type is a drop-down of the tool's own wall types (Wood 2x4, Wood 2x6, Wood 2x8, Metal Stud, Concrete, CMU), with its current type chosen. Your own copy of the Wall Tool lists its own types.
What we're fine-tuning, and what to look for
- The values on the form. Does every tool's form open with the values you expect? Tell us about any box that opens empty when it shouldn't.
- The messages. When an answer is refused, is it clear what to type instead?
Known issues
- A box for a question that has no value and no default (one you added to your own tool and left empty) still opens empty.
- On the Wall Tool's form, rows that follow the wall type, such as Stud Material, stay blank on purpose: blank means use the wall type's.
- The known issues listed for 0.5.413 are still open.
