DimSum 0.5.400
Released October 6, 2026.
Tabs across the Tools panel, the framing tools on the toolbar with keys 4 to 9, a Crash report button, and an update summary with Update now or Postpone.
The same news is on the website's What's new page.
What's new
Tabs in the Tools panel
- The Tools panel has a row of tabs: All, then DimSum Defaults, then one tab for each folder of your own (Company Tools, My Tools…). Pick one to see only its tools.
- The tab you pick is remembered on this computer.
- A new folder gets its tab straight away, a renamed one keeps it, and a folder whose file has moved stays, greyed, with the reason on hover.
- When the panel is narrow, the tabs that don't fit go into a ▾ at the end of the row.
The framing tools on the toolbar
- Joist, Rafter, Beam, Wall, Plate, Rim Board, Subfloor and Ceiling Drywall now have their own buttons after Linear, Area and Count, each with an icon.
- Keys 4 to 9 place Joist, Rafter, Beam, Wall, Plate and Rim Board, the same way 1 to 3 pick Linear, Area and Count.
- A click places the built-in tool exactly as the Tools panel does: its questions first, then it's ready to draw, and one Ctrl+Z takes it back.
- On a smaller screen the framing buttons fold into a More ▾ menu instead of squashing the toolbar. Their keys still work.
The "This job" list is gone
- The Tools panel no longer lists the tools the job has used. The job still keeps its own copy of each one: to place more of a tool whose folder isn't on this computer, right-click one of its items and choose New item like this.
Send a crash report
- A new Crash report button beside Feedback (and Help → Send a crash report…, Ctrl+Shift+E) sends us everything we need to find a problem: your computer, your screens, how DimSum is installed, and its recent logs.
- You see exactly what's in it first, and nothing is sent until you tick I agree. Your Windows user name, sign-in codes and keys are hidden.
- If DimSum closes unexpectedly, it asks the next time it opens whether you'd like to send one.
Updates: see what's new, then update or postpone
- Restart to update now opens a short summary of what's changing, its size and a link to the full notes, with Update now or Postpone (later today, tomorrow, or until a date).
- An update that's required by a date can't be put off past it. From then it installs when you close DimSum; it never restarts in the middle of your work.
Before you update
- Nothing to do: DimSum installs this update on its own.
