Your account page
Your Planbase account in the browser, at app.planbaseestimating.com: your Workspace and its seats, who's in it, the computers DimSum runs on, your plan, the DimSum download, your company's locations and a place to send us feedback. DimSum's own Manage account button opens it.
Overview
Your account page is where you look after DimSum outside the app. You sign in with your Planbase account, the same one DimSum uses.
- Your Workspace is your company's account: one license, one set of seats. It can be a company or just you.
- A seat is one named person. Each seat runs DimSum on up to 2 computers.
- The admin of a Workspace invites people, removes them and can deactivate any computer. Everyone else is a member.
- Your jobs are never here. They're files on your computer. The account page holds your license, seats and computers.
The pages are listed on the left: Overview, Workspace and seats, Locations, Machines, Billing, Downloads, Send feedback, and Tester portal if you're a tester. Back to the website goes to planbaseestimating.com. It works on a phone too.
Where to find it
- In a browser: app.planbaseestimating.com.
- From DimSum: System Settings → Account & License → Manage account. System Settings → Company → Set on your account page opens Locations. See Account & License.
The top bar shows your Workspace's name, your name and Sign out. If you're in more than one Workspace, the Workspace name is a list: pick one, and every page shows that Workspace. Your browser remembers the choice.
Sign in, or create your account
Create your account
- Go to app.planbaseestimating.com and choose to sign up on the Sign in page, or click New here? Create your account on DimSum's sign-in screen.
- Fill in the Create your account form. The sign-in service handles your password; Planbase never sees it.
- Creating an account means you agree to the Terms of Service; the page links to them and to the Privacy Policy.
Name your Workspace
After your first sign-in, the Welcome page asks you to Name your Workspace: your company, or your own name. Click Create my Workspace. You're its admin and you hold its first seat.
- The page lists what you start with: your free start (the launch offer while it runs, or a trial; see The launch offer), no card needed and nothing charged, and Each seat runs DimSum on up to 2 computers.
- One Workspace per person. To work with other people, invite them to your Workspace.
- Renaming it: write to us.
- Invited to someone else's Workspace? The Welcome page shows You're invited first, with Accept. You can accept it, or start your own Workspace below it.
You land on Overview.
Overview
- Plan, with the free period, the trial, or how payment stands.
- Free until a date (launch offer), Trial days left, or Renews on a date for a paid license.
- Seats: how many are in use of how many the Workspace holds, and any invitations waiting.
- Machines: the computers using DimSum of how many the seats allow (2 per seat).
- Workspace: its Name, Your role (Admin or Member), Status, the free period, trial or payment, Seats, Founding customer (if your Workspace has the launch offer's bonus seat), License (the last 4 characters of the key) and Created. Buttons go to Workspace and seats and Billing.
- Your machines: the computers you've signed in on, with Deactivate on each (see Machines). None yet? DimSum shows up here once it is signed in on a computer. Get it from Downloads.
- An invitation for you shows here too, with Accept.
Plan names: Free (launch offer), Trial, Workspace (paid), Enterprise or Complimentary (given by Planbase, for example to testers).
Status: Free, Trial, Active, Payment due, Cancelled or Lapsed.
Workspace and seats
Who has a seat, and who is invited. Admins can change it; members see who's in the Workspace.
The numbers
- Seats held, with what seats cost (see Billing).
- In use: people in the Workspace, and invitations waiting.
- Free: seats nobody holds yet, ready to invite, or every seat is taken.
Members
Each person in the Workspace: their name and email ((you) next to yours), Role (Admin or Member), Location (once your company has locations), Machines (for example 1 of 2), and when they Joined.
- Remove (admin only) takes someone out of the Workspace and frees their seat. It asks first: Remove {name} from {Workspace}? Their seat is freed. The next time DimSum on their computers checks in, it signs out.
- Leave (on your own row, as an admin) takes you out. It asks first: Leave {Workspace}? Your seat is freed.
- Every Workspace keeps one admin. The last admin can't be removed and has no Leave button.
- Location filter: once your company has locations, a filter above the list shows one location's people. See Locations.
Invite someone (admin)
- Under Invite by email, type their email and click Send invite. The page says how many seats are free.
- We email them an invitation. They sign up or sign in with that address and click Accept. Then they hold the seat and can sign in to DimSum.
- If our email isn't connected at that moment, the page shows the invitation link with Copy link so you can send it yourself.
- An invitation holds a seat until it's accepted or cancelled.
- Every seat taken? The invite box says so. Adding seats online opens when payments are connected; until then, write to hello@planbaseestimating.com for another seat.
- Already in the Workspace, or already invited? The page says so. To send a new invitation to someone already invited, cancel the old one first.
Invitations waiting
Each invitation not accepted yet: the email, Waiting, its location (if any), when it was sent and Cancel invite (admin only). Cancelling frees its seat.
Accept an invitation (the person invited)
You're invited shows on Overview (or Welcome, for a new account) with the Workspace's name and who invited you. Click Accept: You've joined {Workspace}.
- Signed in with another email? The invitation isn't shown. Sign out and sign in with the invited address.
- If every seat in that Workspace has been taken since, the page says Every seat in that Workspace is taken. Ask its admin to add a seat, then accept again.
Locations
If your company works from more than one place, Locations holds your company's details (address, phone, email, website, logo, tax rate and suppliers) and each location's own details and people. You don't need any locations. DimSum shows your location and puts your company's details and logo on reports.
Everything about it is on Locations.
Machines
The computers DimSum is signed in on, for the whole Workspace.
- In use: active computers of how many your seats allow ({seats} seat × 2).
- Online now: computers that checked in during the last 15 minutes.
- Computers: each one's name, Person, System, DimSum Version, Last check-in and State.
| State | Means |
|---|---|
| Online | Checked in recently |
| Offline | Hasn't checked in lately. DimSum keeps working offline for up to 30 days |
| Offline over 30 days | DimSum on it needs to connect once to carry on editing |
| Not checked in | Signed in, but hasn't checked in yet |
| Deactivated | Its slot is free. DimSum on it is signed out |
Deactivate a computer
Lost a laptop, or replaced a PC? Free its slot here.
- Click Deactivate on its row.
- Confirm: Deactivate {computer}? DimSum on it stops until it is signed in again, and its slot is freed.
- The page says {computer} is deactivated. Its slot is free for another computer.
DimSum on that computer signs out the next time it connects, and says why. A job open on it stays open to look at. Your job files on it are never touched.
- Who can deactivate: you can deactivate your own computers; the admin can deactivate any computer in the Workspace.
- From DimSum: you can also free a computer from DimSum itself. See Account & License.
Billing
Your plan, and what a license costs.
- Your plan: Plan, Status, the free period, trial or renewal date, and Payment (No payment yet, Paid, Payment due, Cancelled or Refunded).
- Prices: the yearly price of a Workspace (with its first estimator) and of each added seat, and what your Workspace comes to for its seats, plus tax. Founding customers' bonus seats show as free. The launch offer: The launch offer.
- Buy a license: greyed out for now. Buying opens when payments are connected. Your free period (or trial) and your work carry on until then. Paying online, changing your card and invoices aren't on this page yet; write to hello@planbaseestimating.com about billing.
Downloads
DimSum for Windows, for your free period, trial or license.
- DimSum for Windows: the current Stable version, its size and release date, and Download for Windows. Each click asks for a fresh download link. If the download doesn't start, click the button again.
- If Windows warns that the installer is from an unknown publisher, the page says so for that installer: choose More info → Run anyway to install it.
- Beta build: if Planbase moved you to Beta (testers, mostly), a Beta build panel shows the newer, less tried version with its notes and Download Beta. Otherwise the page says Beta builds are by invitation.
- What's new: the notes for recent versions.
- macOS and Linux: not yet.
After installing, open DimSum and click Sign in with your browser. See Updates.
When downloads are off, the page says why:
- The trial or license has ended: The trial for {Workspace} ended {date}, so downloads are off (or The license … lapsed), with Renew on the Billing page.
- The Workspace is locked: write to hello@planbaseestimating.com.
- No Workspace yet: Start your trial goes to the Welcome page.
- Nothing published yet: Nothing to download yet.
Send feedback
Report a bug, tell us what you think, or ask for a feature, from the browser: pick Bug, Feedback, Comment or Feature request, add a Title and Description (for a bug, also What you expected and Steps to make it happen), a screenshot if you like, and click Send. You get a reference (fb_…). Your feedback below the form lists what you've sent, where each one stands and our replies.
Everything about it, including doing the same from DimSum: Send feedback and report bugs.
Tester portal
Only for invited testers: the download, test tasks, the demo plans and your reports in one place. It's in the list on the left while you're a tester. See The Tester portal.
Signing in from DimSum
When you click Sign in with your browser in DimSum, your browser opens the account page's Sign in to DimSum page.
- Not signed in? Sign in (or create your account). DimSum gets its own sign-in for this computer and never sees your password.
- New account with no Workspace yet? Click Start your Workspace, name it, and you come straight back here.
- The page asks Sign in to DimSum on this computer as {your email}? Click Continue, or Use a different account to sign out and pick another.
- The page says DimSum should be signed in now. You can close this tab. DimSum comes to the front.
If DimSum doesn't pick it up, the page shows a code with Copy code. Paste it into DimSum (Paste a code instead). The code works once, for 5 minutes.
"This sign-in link from DimSum isn't valid" means the link was cut short or is old. Start again from DimSum.

Your data
- Download all my data: we send you everything we hold about you on request. Email support@planbaseestimating.com or privacy@planbaseestimating.com from your account's address. We send it within 30 days, usually much sooner. Your job files are already on your computers.
- Deleting your data: email privacy@planbaseestimating.com.
- There's no button for either on the account page yet. What we keep and why: the Privacy Policy.
Rules, limits & edge cases
- 2 computers per seat, at once. Deactivate one to use a third.
- One Workspace per person that you start yourself. You can be in others by invitation.
- Every Workspace keeps one admin.
- A locked account or Workspace: the page says so, with our email address. Write to hello@planbaseestimating.com.
- If sign-in doesn't load, check your connection and anything that blocks scripts on the page, then try again.
- Windows only for DimSum, for now.
