0.5.415: a set of joists in Properties as one, and a search box

Pick several joists and Properties shows them as one, so Doubled or Joist Material changes all of them in one Undo; the Edges grid lines up; and a search box at the top of Properties finds a property as you type.

The goal of this version

Three things testers asked for. Doubling five joists worked from the right-click menu, but Properties only ever showed one joist, so you couldn't set them there. Now Properties shows the joists you picked as one, and a change there goes to all of them. The Edges grid on a joist area had its edge names squeezed to one letter per line and its checkboxes out of line with their headers; now it lines up. And Properties gets a small search box, so a property is easy to find in a long list.

What's new to try

  • A set of joists as one. Drag a box across several joists, or Ctrl+click them. Properties reads 5 joists — Area 1 of Joist Tool, with their marks underneath (J3, J4, J5, J6, J7).
  • Each joist value shows once. A value they all share shows as it is; one they don't share reads Mixed.
  • Tick Doubled, or change Joist Material, and every picked joist changes at once, just like right-click → Double joists. The rim isn't touched. One Ctrl+Z puts them all back, and the joists stay picked.
  • Pick one joist and you get that joist's own panel, as before.
  • The Edges grid lines up. Edge names wrap between words, header words stay on one line (in a narrow panel they shorten to RB, Hgr and OH), and each checkbox sits right under its header, from the narrowest panel to a wide one. Hover a name or a header to see it in full.
  • Search properties. A box at the top of Properties. Type part of a name (doub) and only the rows with it show; groups with nothing left hide. Nothing matches and it says so.
  • Esc or × clears it, and the groups go back to how you had them.
  • What you typed stays as you click from item to item, so you can search Doubled once and check joist after joist.
  • Ctrl+F with the cursor in Properties goes to the box. Anywhere else, Ctrl+F is still the universal search. You can change the key in Keyboard Shortcuts.

What we're fine-tuning, and what to look for

  • The set panel. Is it clear which joists you're changing? Is Mixed clear when the joists differ?
  • The search. Does it find what you look for by the words you'd type? Should it stay on when you move to another item, or clear?
  • The Edges grid. Does it read well at the width you keep the panel?

Known issues

  • Several items at once in Properties come later: a set is joists (or rafters) of one item. Beams and walls can't be set as a set yet.
  • A set doesn't show what each joist has of its own, such as its hangers or the parts it matched: pick one joist to see them.
  • The search looks at property names, not their values.
  • The known issues listed for 0.5.414 are still open.
